Frequenetly Asked Questions

  Technical

Q What do you mean by "native support" for Oracle, SQL Server
and MySQL?
A Comparenicus was specifically designed to be a multi-database
product. Unlike other cross-DB tools that use ODBC,
Comparenicus uses the database's native .Net provider.
In addition, Comparenicus makes use of the database native
features. For example, in the Oracle version features such as
SELECT MINUS and Foreign-Key deferral are used.
This yields - what we believe to be - the fastest, most accurate,
and most effective results for all supported database.
Q What is the difference between the Standard and Professional
editions of the application?
A The editions are almost identical. The only differences are that
the 'copying of relational object graph' and 'Large Table handling'
features exist only in the Professional edition.
Q Can Comparenicus compare databases of different structure?
A Yes. Databases need not be identical in structure to be
compared.
Comparenicus detects schema differences and reports them.
Non-critical differences do not interfere with table comparison
and synchronization. Critical differences (such as a table's
primary-key) prohibit comparison of the specific table
Q Can I execute Comparenicus from a script (or from the command-line)?
A Yes. Comparenicus has a command-line interface.
Q Are table synonyms supported?
A Yes. Table synonyms are fully supported for Oracle and
SQL Server (MySQL doesn't support synonyms).
Q Why isn’t database connection information saved in the Workview?
A The Workview is designed to be applicable to many DB 'pairs',
so you can re-use your definitions. This is very handy, as in many
work scenarios there are several DBs with the same schema,
but different data.

Overview

Comparenicus is a stand-alone
Windows (.Net) application that
compares the schema and table
data of two separate databases.

Data comparison is applied to
database tables, columns and
rows, and may then be followed
by data synchronization.
